Samsung sells 69.4 million smartphones in Q1, sees $6.4 billion record profits

Prepare to be shocked. Samsung has released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2013, revealing that the company managed to remain profitable. OK, that may be a bit of an understatement; Q1 was the best quarter on record for Samsung. Net income for the quarter skyrocketed to $6.4 billion, a staggering 42 percent increase over Q1 2012. During the quarter, Samsung’s smartphone sales jumped 56 percent to 69.4 million units, eclipsing Apple’s 37.4 million iPhone sales during the same time period.
If it’s not already clear, Samsung is the most dominant force in consumer electronics – a position which will be solidified in the second quarter of this year with the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy S 4. While we’d like to think that HTC, LG, Sony or even Motorola have a fighting chance, Samsung’s success in the smartphone space will not be matched for quite some time.

Rumor: “X Phone” will be always connected to Chrome, features creepy intelligence, and casing choices now include wood

WARNING: If you are allergic to rumors, speculation, or leaked phones, then do not click on this story. We just received another round of hot tips about the upcoming Motorola X Phone, and several other devices that are in the pipeline. Read on for the latest gossip.
This post is clearly labeled as a RUMOR and it includes my speculation, so please keep that in mind before you crap your pants. Like with any rumor, there is always the chance this could be some elaborate hoax, but information from our source has been backed up by reports from external sites. Note: The post image above is of the bamboo ADZero, but we used it to illustrate one of the casing options for the “X Phone.”
There has been a steady stream of Motorola X Phone rumors since last year, but we received our first real details of the secret project only last month. Our sources told us Motorola would offer some type of “user customizable” phone and also mentioned that Google was working on a smartwatch.
Motorola’s Guy Kawasaki hinted at the X Phone customizations rumor and the Financial Times confirmed the Google Watch rumor, so we are starting to believe that our sources can be trusted. Once again we went back to the well and returned with a bucket full of new “X Phone” rumors.

Rumor: The first “X Phone” is scheduled to launch in August, and another delay is unlikely. AT&T will have an exclusive launch period of three months and then it will appear on other carriers in November.
Response: I seriously hope this is not true, but it wouldn’t surprise me. AT&T has become the top carrier for exclusive launches, so I bet they made some back room deal with Google. We normally think of Verizon as the number one carrier for Motorola smartphones, but we previously reported that there are several more Droid phones in the pipeline for this year.
If this rumor is accurate, AT&T might have allowed Google to ship this first “X Phone” as an unlocked device. This would be similar to how T-Mobile was the “exclusive launch partner” for the LG Nexus 4, but the device was still unlocked and sold online direct to consumers. AT&T has a much larger LTE footprint (and marketing budget), so this might explain why they were chosen over T-Mobile.
Even though the first “X Phone” might be exclusive to AT&T, it could still work on T-Mobile’s LTE and HSPA+ 1900 MHz networks since they share the same bands. HTC just shipped their One Developer Edition as an unlocked device and that still operates on T-Mobile’s and AT&T’s and LTE network, so there is precedent for this to happen again.
Rumor: The “X Phone” will feature an always on listening mode that allows users to issue it voice commands and wake up the device.
Response: Qualcomm already announced an always-on “Voice Activation” feature that allows users to wake up their device, so it is possible we could see this on the first “X Phone.” The only problem with this rumor is that Qualcomm says this feature is slated for their upcoming Snapdragon 800 chip.
We expect to see the Snapdragon 800 appear in devices by the second half of the year, which falls in line with the August launch window, but we were not expecting the “X Phone” to include this high-end chip. Other rumors had suggested the “X Phone” would be more comparable to the HTC One and Galaxy S 4, so we were expecting to see the Snapdragon 600 or 400.
This always-on rumor suggests that the “X Phone” could be powered by a Qualcomm chip, but we are not sure which one. It might be that the “Voice Activation” feature works on other Snapdragon chips, and it is not exclusive to the Snapdragon 800.
Rumor: The “X Phone” will feature predictive intelligence that is able to launch applications and commands based on how you hold and use the device.
Response: This sounds like some hybrid of Motorola SmartActions and Google Now. We are told that the phone will automatically figure out what you want to do before you do it, something described as a little “creepy.” If you take your phone out of your pocket and hold it sideways, it will open up the camera app to take a picture. Pick up the phone with the display facing you and the lock screen will come up and display the time and notifications.
We have seen both HTC and Samsung include actions that were based on movement, but this sounds like the concept has really been fleshed out. I’m curious to see what other common tasks the phone could perform without any input from the user.
Update: A reader pointed out that Google was just granted a patent for a machine learning service that sounds like what our source described. One example includes predicting a phone number to be dialed at the onset of utilizing a phone dialing application, based on location, time, calendar entries, prior behavior, etc. Another example includes generating example photo names and photo album names for a camera application utilizing the mobile platform.
Rumor: The “X Phone” will be “always connected” to the Google Chrome browser.
Response: With Chrome OS boss Sundar Pichai taking over Android, it’s no surprise we will see tighter integration between Android and Chrome. There are already apps like Airdroid that provide this type of functionality, but we would love to see an official solution from Google.
Motorola had similar functionality with an Android app called Motorola Phone Portal, and they also explored the concept with the Lapdock. Chrome Browser already syncs up tabs between devices, but this new feature could allow you to respond to text messages, access your content, and possibly locate a lost phone.
Rumor: As previously reported, consumers will be able to customize their phones with a number of different materials for the outer casing. A new option just added includes wood. An array of color and material options will produce thousands of custom combinations.
Response: Last time we were told that material choices included plastic, metal, and carbon fiber, so this sounds like an extension of that. We have seen some wood phones in the past like the ADzero, but no big mobile devices have ever attempted this and been successful.
Another rumor said the “X Phone” would be available in 20 colors, but it could be much more than that. We are not sure how there could be a thousand different combinations, so it sounds like users might be able to pick the colors of several different parts of the phones.

WRAP UP

Be sure to read up on rumor dumps one, two and three if you missed our previous “X Phone” reports. Only the customizable RAM option has been debunked, so there’s a good chance that most of the other details could turn out to be true.
I know a lot of this stuff sounds a little bit crazy, but it would definitely deliver the “wow” factor that Google and Motorola are aiming for. Like I said before, I have never carried a Motorola phone as my daily device, but that could finally change if I’m able to customize my own Android phone.
With every passing week, it is sounding more and more like the “X Phone” will not be officially announced at Google IO. There is a chance that some Google employees might be carrying around the device, but we expect that Motorola will hold a separate event in June or July to finally unveil this thing.
Experience tells us that one big leak encourages another, so hopefully more information will be coming soon.

Google Hindi Input: Type in Hindi on Your Android Device

Google has just released a new app called Google Hindi Input that allows users to type in Hindi on their Android smartphones. The coolest thing about this app is that it supports transliteration. This means that you can type in English, phonetically, and have the words converted into Hindi automatically.

For those new to transliteration, it is a process by which text from one script is converted to its phonetic equivalent in another. For example, when one types the word ‘Namaste’ it will be converted into the Hindi equivalent of नमस्ते. The word is not translated, rather rewritten in another language – Hindi, in this case – such that both words sounds the same. The app is smart enough to identify which word is being typed and replaces it with the correct Hindi word.

The app also features a Hindi keyboard, which allows users to type directly in Devanagari script. But the transliteration feature is a huge benefit, as it's a pain to type in Hindi due to the large number of characters.

The Google Hindi Input app is available on the Google Play store for Android version 2.2 and above.

It is worth mentioning that Google has similar transliteration tool available for desktops that supports 22 languages. A Hindi keyboard is also available on Android Jelly Bean devices. Check out the demo video below to see how it works.

Google Chrome to Display Audio Indicators to Identify Tabs Playing Audio

The Google Chrome team is currently working on a feature that identifies Chrome tabs that are currently playing audio via an animated indicator on the tab that is broadcasting. According to François Beaufort, who first spotted the feature, the purpose of the new tweak is to exclude these tabs from those Chrome discards when memory runs out. In other words, when Chrome detects a tab playing audio, it won’t discard it when memory becomes scarce because it is possible that the user is listening to the audio (Internet radio, for instance) even though the tab is not active.

While the actual purpose of audio indicator is to help Chrome better track active tabs so that it doesn’t accidentally kill audio the user is listening to, the real benefit for users is that it will allow them to identify tabs that automatically play music in the midst of a browsing session.

Auto-playing ads or websites with embedded music is a real problem when you have countless tabs open. It’s impossible to tell at a glance which tab is playing audio, because the audio player might not have a visible UI, in the case of background music. There are extensions such as MuteTab that tackles this annoying issue. Thankfully, soon you will be able to identify the offending page via the native audio indicator feature in Chrome.

Reportedly, the feature is already in the latest Canary build of Google Chrome as well as in Chromium.

Microsoft has finally released Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7, just a few hours ago. The browser which was initially released as part of Windows 8, last year, will be pushed out to all Windows 7 users via auto-update in coming weeks. Users who are already running the IE10 Release Preview on Windows 7 should get the update sooner, starting today. How to Secure Your Teamviewer ?

Hi all users, as y'all know that Teamviewer is a great program to communicate remotely , it's the standard for businesses, clients, and for helping that occasional technologically challenged person with their computer. Unfortunately, the developers of Teamviewer have enabled some sketchy functions by default, namely disabling remote mouse and keyboard, transferring files (without consent), controlling the printer, etc.

Rather than being opt-in, these features are now opt-out. Right now, if you have not altered Teamviewer in any way, somebody can connect, (provided you give them details) disable your mouse and keyboard, black your screen, and do all sorts of heinous, sketchy stuff to your computer. Fortunately, they do provide a way to disable or limit these functions, and that's what this tutorial will show.

1. First of all open Teamviewer. (It can be downloaded HERE if you do not have it yet.) It should display like this :

2. Now navigate to "Extras" at the top, then to "Options".

4. Next, navigate to the "Advanced" tab then to "Show Advanced Options", and click on it:

5. Now Scroll down to "Advanced Settings for connections to this computer", in the Drop Box, it should be set to "Full Control", set it instead to "Custom Settings", and then click "Configure".

6. Set your settings to your taste. My own settings can be found in this image:

7. After you have done that, click "OK", then "OK" once more. Congratulations, you have successfully secured your Teamviewer. Enjoy the reduced risk of somebody screwing you over.

How to Change Internet Explorer 10′s Default Search Engine ?

Whether you’re using Windows 8 on a tablet, a laptop, or a desktop, you’re going to have to contend with Microsoft’s sometimes-awkward settings structure. In fact, it almost looks like Microsoft has intentionally placed Bing in the front and center of the operating system, given the fact that Bing is the default search provider in Internet Explorer 10 and it’s very difficult to configure another search provider. In fact, it almost looks impossible.

Internet Explorer 9 makes it easy, but IE10 is one very tangled-up program. Besides the fact that you can’t change the search provider from the “Modern” version, the desktop version offers little more hope. Today, we’ll explain how you can change the search provider in Internet Explorer 10, effectively ending the frantic search for that darned setting.

How to do it :

To properly switch your search provider, you will need to access the desktop. If you’re on a tablet that uses Windows RT, you can still perform this configuration with no problems by following the same exact steps as you would with a desktop machine. So, first of all, we need to access the desktop by either pressing “Win+D” on a keyboard or tapping the desktop icon in the Modern interface (if you’re using a touchscreen).

After reaching the desktop, open up Internet Explorer (the desktop version, of course!). Once inside, you’ll need to click the gear icon.

See that item called “Manage add-ons?” Click on that! It’s the secret entrance to the super-secret option that gets rid of Bing once and for all. You must click on “Search Providers” to go in the right direction. Now, look towards the bottom. There should be a link: Find more search providers.

Click on it. This brings you to the Internet Explorer Gallery, which helps you find other search providers that aren’t as clumsy as Bing (like, say, Google).

THats it after choosing your search engine you will be good to go with that search engine.

Hi all users, I recently wrote a Guide on how to get 1000+ Instagram Followers and 1000+ Likes on all of your photos on there.

This is a extreme and very detailed Guide which includes a lot of screen shots to help you throughout the process, so please do show some appreciation as to leave some feedback or other ways you may find suitable, thanks.

I released this Guide yesterday on a different Forum, but here it is for you guys as well:

Just follow the Steps listed below and you will be on your way to gaining the load :

1. Get on your phone and make a new account for Instagram (this is required), this will act as a FAKE account in this proccess.

2. Once you have created the Account, go to your profile and add a Profile Picture, then edit your Bio (has to be over 5 characters), once you've done that take 5 random photos with it.

Now we are ready for the main part of this Guide.

3. Go to http://www.instahoot.com

4. Click on the 'New User? Register Here' button.

5. Once the new page loads, click 'How to get Authentication URL'.

6. Scroll down and click on the 'Click Here' link, that will log you out of any Instagrams account you may be logged in on the browser, now close that tab.

7. Once that is complete, click on the 'Authorize Instahoot' button.

8. This will pop up, just click OK and it will open a new tab.

9. Now, sign in with the FAKE account you made earlier.

10. Click on the 'Authorize' button.

11. Copy the address on the address bar that shows up, now close the tab, then go paste it in the 'Authentication URL' box and press 'Submit'.

12. It will ask you if it's a FAKE account, press 'Yes'.

Now we have to register an Instahoot Account.

13. Choose a Username and Password, then type in your REAL Instagram account Username (the on you want likes on) in the third box and click 'Submit'.

It will take a little while (10-30 Seconds) to register.

14. Once that is completed, Click 'Return'.

Hooray, it's about time to get them likes and followers. ;)

15. Now login to your Instahoot account we just created, once logged in, click 'Return'.

To Get Likes : Scroll down and Press 'Instalike Photo!' on the photo you want likes on, it will take a few seconds to add all the likes, it will then go back to the same page where you can 'Instalike' all your photos and any new ones to come.

Note :- You will only receive 200 - 250 likes on each photo, but you can 'Instalike' on the same photos every 24 hours, if you keep doing this you'll reach 1000+ likes on all your photos in a few days time!

To Get Followers : Press the 'Follow Me' button and it will add around 80-150 followers in a few seconds and will return back to the page.

You can use the 'Follow Me' feature once every 24 hours, if you keep at it, you will reach 1000+ Followers in a no time.
